The MINI Cooper D - Providing Engine Flexibility
Posted on | August 9, 2010 |
When BMW introduced the new updated version of the old used Mini, the new design truly was a sight to behold. It was fresh, innovative and a welcomed addition to the industry. Performance was something that was vastly improved and this was one of the main reasons for the enhanced reputation of the MINI Cooper. Then, like with anything else, engineers were able to improve on all of the initial elements of the car and one of the most noteworthy points was the engine, which was made available as a Diesel. The official model name is the MINI Cooper D and it comes with a fully variable valve timing engine that delivers a good performance. To summarise, the Cooper D is equipped with a four cylinder, 1.6 litre 16v engine that achieves 0 to 60 mph in less than 10 seconds. Its top speed is 122 miles per hour and, the fact that it was a Diesel, meant that emissions were reduced. Accompanying this new style of engine is a six speed gearbox that was setup to promote even smoother gear changing. Such features enabled the vehicle to become very popular with drivers and enthusiasts alike. The same sporty design, look and feel was still all there with the Cooper D, but it was the more economic engine that would once again open the debate regarding what is the best fuel type; petrol or diesel?! It is fair to say then that with all of the above in place, things have certainly moved on from the 1960’s used Mini!
